The prevalence of Salmonella in various aspects of chicken meat was determined in 2006. Analysed samples included chicken meat, chicken meat parts, fat and carcasses. In total, 3195 samples were tested. In samples of chicken meat and chicken meat parts, the prevalence of Salmonella was 1·4% and 3·5%, respectively. In fat, the prevalence was 3·2% and in carcasses the prevalence was 1·2%. Salmonella was isolated from 1·1% of chicken meat samples. The highest prevalence was noted in chicken carcasses in 2012 (10·5%). A total of 91 different serotypes were isolated. Most frequently isolated serotypes in chicken meat were: Typhimurium (43·5%), Enteritidis (19·8%) and Ohio (11·2%). All serotypes isolated from carcasses were susceptible to gentamicin, ampicillin, streptomycin, ciprofloxacin and cefotaxime. Resistance to cefotaxime and gentamicin was noted in 7·8% and 12·6% of isolates, respectively. Resistance to ampicillin was found in 22·2% of isolates. One isolate (0·1%) was resistant to streptomycin and ampicillin, and another isolate (0·1%) was resistant to nalidixic acid, ciprofloxacin, cefotaxime and gentamicin.A former race car driver has admitted having sex with a 17-year-old girl but has been spared a jail term after the girl lied about her age and had consensual sex with him.
